THAI CIVIL AIRCRAFT REGISTER

What follows is a tabulation of the data currently known on civil aircraft registered in Thailand. It is inevitably incomplete and with errors.

Thai aircraft are registered with the national prefix HS-, followed by a three letter individual registration. The individual allocations are generally by default made in operator groups. There are many exceptions to this as a prospective operator can request any free registration. The main operator groups have included:-

HS-Axx                   for private & flying club aircraft

HS-CHx                  for Sky of Siam

HS-DCx                  for Department of Aviation

HS-HAx                 for Hiller Aircraft International

HS-HHx                  for Hiller Aircraft International

HS-HTx                  for Thai Aviation Services

HS-KLx                  for Air Andaman

HS-OTx                  for One-Two-Go

HS-PBx                   for PB Air

HS-PGx                   for Bangkok Airways

HS-POx                  for Pacific Overseas Airlines (Siam)

HS-RAx                  for Ministry of Agriculture

HS-Sxx                    for Siamese Airways

HS-SKx                  for Sahakol Air, and later Bangkok Airways

HS-Txx                   fot Thai Airways and Thai Airways International

HS-TCx                  for Civil Aviation Training Center

HS-TZx                  for Civil Aviation Training Center (helicopters)

HS-UTx                  for Orient Thai Airlines

HS-VAx                  for Holiday Airlines Co / Phuket Air

HS-VGx                  for Air Siam (‘V’ for Prince Varanand)

HS-YHx                  for Yanhee Electricity Authority (later Electricity Generation Authority = EGAT)

other grouping can also be identified

An exception to this was a little-understood series used between 1946 and 1949. This used a 2 letter operator-related suffix, e.g. ‘PC’ for Pacific Overseas Airlines (Siam), followed by a 3 number registration.

For microlights a series prefixed ‘U-’ was introduced in 1998. Aircraft registered in this series must have a maximum take-off weight less than 500kg, a maximum cruise speed not exceeding 90 knots, and a stall speed below 40 knots. Second letter denotes owner, for example:-

U-Axx = Sport Flying Association of Thailand

U-Cxx = CMT

U-Kxx = Kamol Kulanet / Pukjudee Flying Club

U-Pxx = Pattaya Flying Club

U-Rxx = Klang Flying Club

U-Txx = Foundation for the Preservation and Development of Thai Aircraft

Hot air balloons are not registered in Thailand, and fly with their foreign registration.
